>>1511620Are ypu getting loops, or some semblance of them while you're casting? Also on your back cast, cast slightly upwards, the line will fall to level as it travels back and set you up nicely for a forward cast. Also, fish foam terrestrials for bluegill (ants, beetles, small hoppers or crickets). I can push a 75 foot cast with my 4 weight set up (granted its a $120 rod and a $40 line) but even on a shitty eagle claw rod and air cel line a 50 foot cast was doable. Here's what i reccomend: strip out 25 feet of line (plus your leader) and tie on something like a yarn puff or a fly with the hook cut off. Lay the line out flat, dont start with it in a pile at your feet, then go pick up your rod. Stand so you have a clear area behind you for a back cast, with the rod tip a foot off the ground, and the line fairly straight. From there, smoothly accelerate the rod until you get it to the 1:30 position (12:00 being straight up) give your wrist an ever so slight "pop", then suddenly stop the rod by the 2:00 position. Look back over your shoulder as the loop un rolls behind you, and once the line is straight, bring the rod foreward in the same manner you brought it back, "pop" at 10:30 and stop by 10:00. Once you get your line roling out, slowly lower ypur rod tip with it as it falls. And again, check out the orvis fly casting videos; they're on YouTube and the orvis website
