if you want to go far, having a long sleek sea kayak is a must. they are heavier, longer and harder to transport and store tho, but you get about double the speed for the same amount of work. also, they can tip over if you're careless. fat kayak like in your pic never really tip over. it's like riding a bike (long thin kayak) vs riding a beefy tricycle (fat short kayak).
i've had a fishing kayak, and a sea kayak. the sea kayak was more of a bitch to transport but i could never go back once i sat in it. consider buying/DIY a kayak trolley if your kayak is heavy or clumsy to carry. i built mine for $25, does the same job as the $200 ones
