Not sure if the UK carp are the same as the common carp in the US. But lots of people will just use corn kernels for carp. I used to take white bread, take the crust off, and press it into a ball around a treble hook. Everybody thinks it is crazy, but it works well.
Also carp are like the furthest thing from a sport fish in the US. It's strange. They are fun to catch, especially because they get so big.
