Aside, and I could go on for pages, redfin will occasionally hybridize with chain pickerel, their larger cousin. Pic related. I almost nutted when I caught this rascal before I determined based on his chain-like pattern that he was a rare hybrid, not a monster redfin. I got in an argument with the department of natural resources about that fish because they didn't even know that redfin pickerel existed before they consulted the literature, let alone hybrids with the more understood but still ignored chain pickerel.
