You’d take the bag pill, then wonder why you used a canister for so long. They say you need 2-4 cups per hour of hiking. 10 hours of hiking per day would average 30 cups (for the Eurofriends following along, there are 16 cups per gallon). Call it two gallons per day, so about 15 full days worth. In practice it’s closer to 25. I view it like stove fuel; a specialty consumable that I need specifically for hiking.
