In general? depends what you have, but you want things that wont let them get to the plants, things that will take them off the plants/kill them
you can achieve this in a variety of ways, biological, chemical and moure house worky
dilute soap in water, a lot, spray bugs, use neem oil apparently, pick them by hand and kill them
then I've also heard white painting the base of trees detracts pests, which is helpful info too
mix your crops so the same bugs cant reproduce like crazy in a single spot, while respecting companion planting guidelines
bring birdos that feed on bugs, bring bugs that feed on bugs
basically, the counter intuitive idea of combating pests is literally a war done passively with flowers (to attract the good bugs), pretty hippy when you think about it
