IMO it's a bit wild that plastics aren't banned or even really that controversial. Lead is only controversial because it kills birds. Powerbait is another fun one, it is literally just flavored plastic paste. You are actually just fishing with microplastics when you use the stuff.
Incidentally, in lakes with both smallmouth and lake trout people catch lakers with guts full of plastics because lakers scavenge shit off the bottom in spring when they come up shallow and people fish smallmouth in rocky areas where the plastics do not get covered up. Pic related, but not mine. I have caught lakers with plastics in their gut though.
