People get rid of them for cheap because no A/C or power steering and other stupid complaints.
I was going to also suggest the Renault 4, because they are surprisingly capable off roaders.
I see them following Nissan Terranos and other 4x4 down bad roads without breaking a sweat.
But somehow I can't find one for under €1000. They seem to be gaining in price and popularity again.
So maybe a consider a Dyane instead.
