i basically grew up innawoods - my parents own lots of forest property and their entire section of town is all forest, so you can go out and get lost for days you want.
since i spent most of my time growing up out there i could find my way around blindfolded, or even recognize exactly where a rock or tree is if someone showed me a picture of it. my favorite spots out there were always the dark, low pine groves OR the random clearings. something about going through the trees and ferns and suddenly finding a completely private and hidden clearing to take a break, either a dark one under a pine grove or a nice sunny one that opens up to the sky
