It is rather saddening to simply step foot inside a climbing gym. Every man looks like joe rogans gay younger brother, a Beatles tribute band member, or some combination of the two. As far as the eye can see, people, who despite having the technique of a child, are adorned with gear that costs hundreds of dollars in total.
I love climbing, but I cannot stand the people that do it. They are the complete opposite of other outdoorsmen and have the mind of city dwelling, neo-liberal bug people, climbing only for the purpose of achieving some purposeless number and posting it on Instagram. The women who climb are especially victim to this, for all they see in climbing is a sport wherein they can potentially be as good as a man. Never have I ever heard of a climber who appreciates the outdoors simply for all its beauty, and not just reducing it to some obstacle waiting to be conquered. Obviously there are exceptions, but gym climbing seems to breed these people at such a rate that the rest are smothered out.
