>>2355971>>2356311Ok, to start off, i ll add the caveat that every piece of ground is different, but there are some very simple rules to think on and follow when looking for placer gold in a creek.
1) Gold is heavy, it doesnt want to move unless forced to. It will sink down as deep as it can, into the bottoms of cracks, into hard clay and even into the mats of tree roots. Gold is most often transported during spring flood, so look to the high water mark on a water course. If bedrock is present, search out cracks and fissures or preferential weathering points, places gold would stop and sink. You can also use this idea in the water course its self. Check inside curves and fast transition points in the flow, places where the water suddenly slows will drop gold. Large clusters of boulders or river bed armor can catch and stop gold as well.
Next, the terrain your dealing with. Is the creek or water course exceptionally fast and steep or gentle and babbling? Is there bedrock at all anywhere near or around the creek or could the creek / water course have flowed over it in the past? If the terrain is too steep, gold will keep traveling until the water slows.
There are dozens more little points i can go into, like the differences in river bottoms (hard bedrock and clay) creating different traps and challenges for gold and for finding it, if you want me to keep going i can. I can also post links shortly to wider sources on this topic.
