I don't care if I look autistic, this is why I always blouse my boots and usually wear a pair of canvas leggings if I can. I never hike in shorts unless it's a trail that's constantly maintained and like 6 feet wide or something. And if I'm out in the bush and hunting or something, I always wear a long sleeve shirt and button the sleeves.
I know that isn't a full-proof way of keeping them out but it works pretty well for me, I only rarely have any ticks that I have to take care of
