Anyone have experience with East Matagorda Bay this time of year?
I went down to the west bay last month and fished off the piers with Carolina rigs and popping corks using live shrimp as bait. Caught plenty of sheepshead, black drum, and speckled trout, but only 1 or 2 of them were keepers. Tried using cut pinfish and mullet, but they didn't even get a bite.
I hear the fishing in the eastern bay is supposedly better due to the shell reefs, but I've never been out there.
My plan is to head down to the Colorado river jetty and then take a truck along the beach to do some surf fishing. Any tips for this time of year? Any other species I should target? Any places I should avoid? Any favorite restaurants in the area?
