Is there anyone using vegetable oil as fuel here? What is the best way to keep animals from getting to it?
i've probably spent more on repairs at this point than saved in fuel costs so I might just switch to normal diesel again. Recently I had rats get in the van through the roof air vent in an attempt to get at oil stored inside the van. They didn't seem to like diesel that much.
Later they chewed through a fuel line on the bottom of the van too, and caused me to run out of fuel leaving me stranded.
I tried switching back to the petro-diesel tank, but air already gotten into the diesel injection pump and locked it up so it was a huge headache that required towing and priming by a professional.
It turns out the pic related diesel injection pump was also full of what looked like oven grime, much like a dirty stove top, and had to be cleaned.
I am now running the van on a mixture of kerosene, gearbox oil, and paint brush cleaner to clean it out as per instructions of the Spanish mechanic.
The twin tank solution I had fitted earlier isn't the best. The small electric fuel pump in the vegetable oil tank burnt out twice at a cost of €40 each time, so I had reverted to only running on vegetable oil.
Not sure if that is the cause of the grime, but I hope this sangria looking mixture fixes it.
