What if you put yourself in a dumb situation by being unprepared, making ridiculous decisions - perhaps trespassing - and then you start a fire for survival. Your fire grows out of control and you burn down half of California.
Will you be prosecuted for your reckless behavior? Your fire may have been for survival, but you were a bonehead (saw this term used in another thread) for getting into that position in the first place.
I'm not saying you should necessarily be prosecuted, it depends on the case, but no doubt there are lawyers and laws out there that could find you guilty of something, and it might be more than a campfire fine.
