>>1330385Ever hear of Bear Spray or Pepper Spray? If you are in an area that has a lot of predatory wild life, and you can't carry a gun, this is what you should get. Even more important, try to learn more about the local animals and how to react if you happen to stumble across one. Most animals don't want to fuck with humans if they don't need to, unless they have young with them, or are cornered, or have some illness, they will leave you alone.
Now if you want to carry a large blade just for the fun of it; Machete is your answer. I'm autistic enough to own a $300 Katana (Hanwei Raptor) and a $750ish Longsword (Valiant Armoury Rhinelander), they are weapons not tools. They could be used as a tool, but are not really good at it, and are more delicate and easy to fuck up than a machete. Not to mention swords are far more expensive. Talking around $200 for a bare bones entry level Katana and around $300 for the Euro equivalent.
A good machete is less than $50. For the fun of pretending to run around the woods with a sword, I recommend the Cold Steel Swordchetes, I have a Cutlass machete and Chines War Sword machete. They are practically indestructible, need a lot of sharpening and some sanding out of the box. In particular I would say the Cutlass, cause it has some semblance of utility.
