Now I work for the Forest Service but I still have a lot of NPS friends who work in Region 7 and Region 8 (including ones who currently work at Zion). I can tell you that lots of people go backcountry camping in these parks because we simply don’t have the manpower to stop them. As long as they don’t start any fires, leave any trash or fuck with any wildlife we really don’t care. We’re stretched pretty thin as it is.
Do you think the ranger that you supposedly spoke to is going to alert supervisor that a random person may or may not be camping there without a permit within a certain 5 day window? What do you think they’ll do? Comb the entire 230 square miles of backcountry looking for him based on the tip of some random schizo who based his info on an internet post?
