>>104945John Muir was a great man. I wish I knew of more places here in Wisconsin named after him, seeing as he first lived here when his family immigrated to the United States
I'm a big fan of Sigurd Olson. Not only did he spend his life trying to ensure that my favorite /out/ place was protected (the Boundary Waters), he was instrumental in creating the Wilderness Act of 1964, which allowed the US government to designate wilderness areas. I think of all the wilderness areas in the US that I have yet to visit, and am glad that he decided to dedicate his life to preserving the natural world of the United States in some of it's most pristine condition. He wrote a few books, and I read some of his stuff as a kid, when my dad and my uncles would tell me stories about their trips up to the BWCA.
