in this photo you can see a whole bunch of other types of bags. external frame and osprey and kelty. all carrying about the same load (30-50lbs). you can see that mine (the red box) is closest to my back and the most comfortable. also i use the straps to tightly attach things to the outside. a tarp a tree saw and a coat in these photos but i have also attached shorter shovels and a pickaxe with little trouble
