>>174307My advice is look for cheap planting pots off of craigslist. I got like 10 1gallon nusery pots for 20cent each and 20 5gal pots for 50cents. Best deal I could find, but nurseries might be even less. Soil you can buy off amazon for cheap or at your local home depot.
When I started, I bought like 15-20 seed pack from amazon selling for cheap $13 bucks. The same ferrymore set of seeds cost 28 bucks now. It's good to have options to choose. You can get crappy seeds and planting pots at your 99only stores too.
You can look for raised bed kits too. Now I'm looking for worm bins for cheap. I know some can make their own from rubbermaid containers but I want the ones with multiple trays. I can buy a bunch of red wiggler worms off amazon too.
Right now I have like 5-6 cucumber plants and 2 cantalopes, 2 watermelon plants and random fruit seeds. That's also a cheap way to start. Fruits you eat, save the pits and seeds and find out how to germinate them. I have a lemon tree that has been here since the last people that lived here. My old place had a great avocado tree. I want to plant one of those but it will take years before it produces.
We all make mistakes. Gotta just read up and learn from them. Here's my watermelon plant. I put in 3-4 seeds in a small container and two plants grew. I should have separated them. Oh well. I was waiting for my miracle gro soil to come in from amazon which came yesterday. So many plants are root bound now. I'll spend this week transplanting and hoping to make those plants green again instead of yellow. This was my first year gardening so I didn't have high expectations. Hoping to get cucumbers and melons maybe next year.
