My axe is only 2lbs. If were talking a backpacking kit, yeah id pack differently, but if im bushcrafting, im clearly not going to be hiking more than a few miles a day once in, most of that witthout kit
>>2136160I carry both a saw and axe, saws are great, but axes, or atleast a hatchet make fire building much easier than batoning a fixed blade imo. I carry a 26" axe solely because i havent upgraded my axe yet, a 19" would do basically everything i need, maybe even smaller. For cutting wood to size lengthwise of course a saw is smarter, but a fire needs kindling. That said, my experience is basically all camping where im hiking in, making camp, and buikding there for x days. If i were moving every day my thoughts may be different
