>>1275544We saved up for a couple of years. Spent $25k buying the car + $8k mods, upgrades & repairs on it before we left. Had $40k when we left and have less than $10k now. We did a short stint working for 3 months over last summer as insurance and rego where due which is pretty expensive, plus the car needed repairs.
We are currently heading to the Kimberleys to work in a remote wilderness lodge for 3 months. Seems like a good gig; ok money (but no where to spend it) and food & accom is included which is a big bonus. We should save $20k while there which will enable us to stay travelling for a decent amount of time.
Our budget is $500 per week ($300 diesel, $100 food, $100 misc) which we mange to come in under 99% of the time. We never pay for accomodation - always free camp. Wikicamps is the tits.
What we didn't account for was how often the car would need repairs. Its cost us close to $12k+ currently which has by far been our biggest expense. Not sure if we have had bad luck or if its just normal wear and tear as we traverse some very rough country. Hopefully now we will have far fewer issues as we've had so much work done on it haha.
