You dont actually do much mining, your taking soil samples, chip samples from outcrops and copious notes on visible geology to bring back to the wider geo team to figure out where to go further.
Sometimes you will be using tools like slab saws or small portable diamond drills to get sub surface samples but that only comes later after you have already IDed a target for further investigation.
