>>334601Flares are very cheap. I literally go to my local TrueValue and buy them for a little over a dollar a piece. Try to buy them per piece in a brick and mortar store because usually emergency kits are way to expensive. They're so awesome when you come to a situation where you think there's a drop off. I once stopped my hole team once cause I got a bad feeling. Lit a flare and threw it down a tunnel. Flare disappeared and dropped off at least 70ft to a vertical shaft. Good thing we brought repelling gear.
As for flashlights that's tricky. Really this is my personal preference but I use a Coast G45. It's 135 lumens which is more then I've ever needed. And this thing is virtually unbreakable and water proof. I've dropped it three stories and it still worked.
But like I said it really is your own preference. Might wanna look into a nice headlamp for underground work.
