As for gear, since you didn't provide a budget, it's hard to suggest any brands besides the cheapest. Typically people purchase their sleep system first (sleeping pad, sleeping bag, pillow) first, then find a tent that will fit the bag and mat. After that, they will search for a pack that will fit everything (assuming you are backpacking, instead of car camping). If you see something labeled 4 season, it means you should use it in the winter, not year round. A 4 season tent isn't required for winter camping, it just means your other sleep system components will need to be dialed in.
