>>278278I understand I am *contaminating* the steel but at the end of the day it always gets the job done. I have read up on proper heat treating but I just can't see dropping 800 dollars on a heat treating oven as much as I want one. I've only been doing knives for maybe 6 months now so I am lacking several of the skills, equipment and knowledge needed.
At this point I am still using a variety of steels to find what I like working with.
Honestly, all the steels I listed were heat treated this way and they function perfectly. Even the ones I turned into kitchen knives using AEBL keep a very good edge. I haven't had to sharpen them in the last 2 months and they are still very sharp.
So two questions for you.....
1. Where can I get my blades heat treated professionally for 15 bucks *total* without expensive back/forth shipping?
2. How big of a difference is this going to make considering I use my ghetto heat treat method knives along side knives like a bk2 when I'm camping and they tend to hold a edge just as good as my bk2?
