>>114332i'm partial to pigs because thats what i've been doing the past few years. i started out by buying 2 piglets each spring, slaughtering in the fall. more than enough food to feed me and my wife, and barter/give away a bunch. super easy. fencing only requires some grade stakes with 2 strands of electric wires. if you slaughter yourself you can save a good chunk of change, and its not even that hard. pigs eat anything. so if you have some prickle bush scrub of some kind put the pigs there. they love the roots, and soon enough that area will be growing grass. you can even get them to break ground in an area that you want to have a garden in. i decided to step things up and buy a boar and breed 2 females. i'll keep 2 piglets and sell the rest. the money from the piglets should come close to covering the cost of feed for the boar, sows, and piglets i'm going to raise for slaughter. that is my hope anyway. all you can eat, free pork. the reason pigs work for me is because i dont have a ton of field for the pigs to graze. so i give them a lot of forest to roam about in and forage. i cant give much advice on cows, but if you have some field acreage then it would probably be a good idea to put cows, goats, and/or sheep in there. also think long and hard before buying a cow for milk. that is like serious farming, that milking business, scares me a little.
