You can actually get to the escarpment within a couple hours if you looking for a day trip.
They found 1000 year old cedars growing off some of the cliff faces there not too long ago.
Other than that you need to head north into cottage country which is just another suburb of the GTA, obviously Algonquin if you have days to spare. Heading east there are some great spots on the way to Kingston.
Basically why I got the hell out of the 'golden horseshoe' years ago, fucking concrete jungle.
