>>2425779>>2425799>>2425523Agreed. I can count on one hand the distance hiking advice I took from here that actually turned out to be true or useful. I know the people in 3kg military boots and tweed cloaks will seethe about it, but the Ultralight reddit has a lot more very experienced hikers and a lot more lifestyle/dirtbag/budget minded tips on saving weight, navigating, staying safe and having a better hiking experience. That subreddit is a good introduction before getting into the very technical (but magically useful) discussions that happen on Backpackinglight. Then there are a few great sites like
Trek-Lite.com (UK based) and
https://www.randonner-leger.org/ (Frog language).
Try a few youtube thru-hiking gear videos, then some ultralight backpacking vids showing the gear in use and daily routines, then listen to this wonderful podcast:
https://backpackinglight.com/podcast/You'll soon have a chuckle at the people telling you to carry your weight in water, leather and wool to walk for 30 days
