Never do any real hike without mine. Find it indispensable. You can dig in with it going up steep embankments, use it to take weight off your joints going downhill for long periods, helps with balance. 5' long 3/4' red oak. Have a 1' ruler marked out in 1' increments at the bottom. Handy for measuring things or using as a refernce when taking a photo of a animal track for scale. Wouldn't leave home without it.
