I took two friends fishing yesterday, and we had a great time. They are foreign students who've never fished before, and they learned quickly. I tied the hooks on, baited the first couple worms, and took the first couple fish off, but only that. The pond we went to is filled with dinks, but they didn't care. They were amazed.
Today, I caught some nice bass and a catfish. Afterward, I went to Scheels and bought a Whisker Seeker rod for catfish (and carp). I've been the guy asking about baitfishing. I much prefer the feel of it to the Mad Cats rod the salesman was showing me. I also saw the Ugly Stik catfish rods, which I liked better than the Mad Cats on account of price and feel. One question, I know a great carp spot. There's a derelict bridge and a boat ramp. Can I hoist the fish, or should I fish on the boat ramp?
pic is my friend demonstrating his unusual casting technique, which he developed so that he wouldn't get the line or rod dirty (lol). It was surprisingly effective.
