>>1691929I was on this board from day 1. I was one of the people who advocated for its creation on /q/, and I contributed to the threads when we talked about what should be in the sticky. I still check in from time to time, as I'm doing today, but I rarely post here anymore.
I've always loved backpacking in general, and some ultralight gear has really changed my own approach to hiking, albeit my gear is probably better classified as only "lightweight." I tried to create some good discussion about the subject here, but with the type of people who populate 4chan, I honestly just lost interest. Why would I choose to spend my time in front of my computer getting verbally abused by people who are wrong, don't know anything and don't want to learn anything, when I could be doing things that are actually enjoyable to me instead?
There's also something that happens when you realize just how stupid the people you're talking with actually are. You tend to not be interested in talking to them about other subjects, either. If someone is swearing at me and calling me names to get his point across, but I know from firsthand experience that his basic premise is wrong, why would I trust his opinions about anything else? There are some smart people on this board, but the noise-to-signal ratio is way too high to actually learn anything here.
