If you look at, for example, a cop's utility belt, it's easily 2-3 inches wide and a quarter inch thick, because a larger surface area is stiffer and has better weight distributionI do have some pretty decent belts. I don't really have to carry it, but I like to carry extra water. I like going hiking with my girlfriend and she is tiny, meaning she struggles to just keep up with me, so carrying some extra water for her evens things out.
So you suggest getting a decent belt designed for this shit?
I think there's a bear grylls belt coming out this year....
