>be me>hiking with a bunch of mates on a seaside coast>occasionally see dead jellyfish on beach bits, laugh it off>summer in Australia so late sunsets>it's about 7pm by the time we reach the campsite>beautiful beach beside the campsite>all of decide, screw it, we're going for a swimBack then, I was super overconfident in my swimming ability. I had won some awards in Year 7 and 8, and I was riding off hike adrenaline.
>go out to swim>all of my mates are chilling near the coastline>doing some basic swimming stuff a bit further out>all of a sudden, realise I'm 20m from the coastline>what just happened>slowly being pulled out on a literal rip>i begin to panic and tryhard swim>nothing happens>by this point, I'm 30m from the coast, no one can see me due to low visibility and distance>try calling out, mouth is above water and lungs are breathing>nothing comes out of my mouth>by this point, nearly 40m out>screw this>make one final effort, going full monke mode>stop breathing for like a full minute while in swim mode>all of a sudden, I'm at shore>don't remember passing anyone>don't remember breathing on my way back>don't remember stepping back on land>spooked out for rest of hikeNever swim after evening at a beach, kids.
