Can someone tell me if I'm dumb or my new reel is broken? I'm new to fishing and I bought a Daiwa Saltist some time ago. When I first tried using it the bail wouldn't close upon reeling. The reel handle would get stuck and I'd have to close the bail manually to continue reeling. I, being unsure if modern reels just require lots of force to close the bail, tried turning the reel handle harder. When I did that there was a crunch and now I can reel freely but the bail never closes. Shouldn't an open bail always close when you start reeling?
