>>2124616>2. They hate nuclear power. Why? Because nuclear power actually solves the problem in an economically sustainable manner.See, this is just bad faith. When you're talking to the
>average climate change alarmistwhich is just another phrase for your neighbor Karen married to the soiboi next door, she's definitely not rubbing her hands in private thinking about government subsidies. Probably not even a macro-level person like Greta Fetalberg is rubbing her hands in private thinking about government subsidies. These people are the nexus of several vectors, which all sum up to someone who makes symbolic gestures because she doesn't know what else to do.
She's very worried about the climate because everyone is talking about it, "everyone" defined as the people who appear on the TV and the NPR newsfeed and her friends who also watch TV and read NPR. She has been told the problem is pollution, which is generally correct. But she has never been prompted to think of pollution outside of her own immediate country, she's just not really aware of how much of the problem issues from the Ganges and Yangtze. She certainly would get uncomfortable if we started discussing practical solutions to these problems. She knows that nuclear exists of course, but she also "knows" that nuclear is too dangerous because of Fukushima and Three Mile Island, and she "knows" that we can replace all that with "risk-free" solar/wind/hydro anyway, so why bother with nuclear? She sees immigration as a completely separate issue and has never been encouraged to view them as affecting each other - that's just about being fair and compassionate and melting pot, it doesn't affect anything else right?
People like that don't need to be treated like liars. They just need to be firmly and calmly encouraged to consider a broader picture.
