Like looking at all the trails on the doc map, they're all along where the huts are. So if you don't want to stay at a hut do you just camp nearby? Or, do you completely go off track and just bush-bash wherever you want? I've been in Fiordland, and if you're not on the trail it seems pretty fucking impossible to get anywhere.
