My town recently got an REI, so I went for the first time ever today. Ended up with a Black Diamond Icon headlamp to replace my mediocre Coleman lamp. A bit expensive, but the 75 hour battery life on max output was pretty attractive, as well as the dimmer function. The battery pack being on the back of my head seems to balance it out really well, and using AA pairs it perfectly to the other thing I bought. A GoalZero Guide 10 charge pack. I plan to pair it with an older GZ solar panel a friend doesn't use any more to charge AA for my lamp, GPS, etc when I'm out. Also support USB charging which is nice.
The radio I bought a couple weeks ago off Amazon. Baofeng UV-5R+. Fun for tuning to local repeaters or fire service frequencies.
