I had the moab 2s and they were very robust but yes hot even in the summer. i wore them for about 3 years even at work walking through oil and coolant and on rocky southwest trails. they were the most comfortable hiking shoes i tried on that’s why i bought them. they were bad for any sort of climbing but thick and protective, they are still wearable.
I went to a DSW and stole some Moab 3’s a few months ago. it was late and there was nobody there, i put them on and put my flip flops in my jacket pocket and walked right out the door saying bye to the employees
they have been decent but i noticed a couple days ago that the sole has started to come off, it’s not something i expected at all. i have worn them not nearly as much as the 2s i had, and i washed the 2s several times and soaked them a number of times too. the 3s i have babied in comparison but still done a good bit of hiking in them. I am very disappointed and will be writing Merell a letter telling them to fix this shit. I don’t even want to go steal another pair i am so disappointed in the product. the same will probably happen to yours unless they changed the glue recipe
As far as REI, you clearly aren’t white enough or maybe you give off sketchy energy - I have stolen thousands of dollars of goods from REIs across the country that i then resell. For some reason 8/10 of the $600 tents on sale will have a anti theft tag on them, and 2 won’t. or a stack of patagonia jackets, one will always be untagged. i think god wants me to have them. i just put them in my shopping bag and walk right out the door, sometimes returning a number of times if there’s lots of stuff to steal. The MSR stoves come in a box with a beeper on it, but you just open the box and take the bag out, it’s ridiculous.
