For the squirrel snaring fellow. If you are making your snares without a cinching lock piece, that is probably how they are escaping.
I'm posting a pic of the snares similar to what I use. I make them out of 7x7 aircraft cable (7 strands of seven small strands braided together). It's cheap and found lots of places. The locking mechanism is a bent washer or metal "L" tag threaded onto the cable and secured to the end. Using this means the snare will cinch down tight but will not get any looser. It tightens with more struggling. Also this cabling is super strong, it will hold a 60 pound beaver if staked correctly.
