The point with geographic determinism isn't that it's wrong, but Diamond is wrong. He puts literally everything on hard-core geo determinism, ignoring entirely every other factor imaginable. And everything that doesn't fit his "perfect" vision is instantly discarded.
Last time this style of geo determinism was done, it was 1820s, with people writing sincere works in tune of "there is coal in Wales, because God willed the rise of British mining industry".
