Shortly after crossing the border into Colorado, I began my largest detour off of the route, hitting Rocky Mountain and Great Sand Dunes national parks.
Here's a shot from Trail Ridge Road. Riding up to 12,000 feet was quite taxing on my body, so I stopped frequently near the top to take pictures or to just take in the scenery.
I didn't like RMNP much, probably because I didn't stop to take any hikes there. I hit the park on a weekend, so there was loads of tourist traffic from the Denver area. Estes Park was one big traffic jam. I had planned to hike up Long's Peak, but the campsite near the trailhead was full when I got there. The road up to it was fucking steep too.
