No protective equipment and random clothes and leather shoes or rubber boots with woolen socks if cutting in snow and ice.
I always sharpen by hand with a file, I hold the saw upright between my legs, left hand holds bar&chain, right hand files. I carry a tool pouch with 13/64" files, flat file, raker and angle gauge, screw/wrench, torx and hex wrenches, carburetor screwdriver, a clean string to block the piston and two pliers, a normal one and a narrow one.
Also 5l gas can and clean motor oil.
