I've painted a lot of trains in my day. Probably 200. The only times I've been told to fuck off was when I was taking pictures too close to the tracks. And one time when someone yelled at me from the other side of a train i was painting. He didn't see me though. Scared me shitless. Besides that I've only encountered other writers in yards. The most difficult thing is getting into most yards. The one I go to in my town is seperated by a highway on one side and a river on the other. Only ways to get in is to park in a sketchy residential area and do a very sketchy jug up the tracks and hope no one is throwing switches. or park in the industrial area on the other side and hope security isn't lurking around. Suprisingly when you are in this yard it's very quiet and easy to paint. The one negative is that there's a moat filled with thornbushes seperating the mainyard from the rest of the yard. if there's trains in the rest of the yard it's chill, but if there's not and you want to paint something you gotta cross this moat. only two spots in the yard(besides the entrance and exit) that you can cross, so if you do get spotted getting away can be really sketchy. pic is a yard i found in the middle of fuckin nowhere with some nice boxcars. not very paintable but an interesting sight.
