>>300598Much has changed since I was out there last year. Urban sprawl continues to fill the empty spaces with unfinished, half financed boxes. Waste lines the ditches on commuter routes, like plaque in diseased arteries.
13 windmills stand alien on a background of lenticular clouds and heath, drawing power from the swift wind to cook dinner, boil tea, and power crap programming on someone's flat screen. More lay in pieces on the ground, awaiting assembly.
Underneath the rotating blades, small communities rooted in opposition with small signs "No Windmills" stapled to telephone poles, futile rebuttles long since having lost any meaning. People play football with children and walk dogs in the evening sun. I wonder how it will all look in another ten years, and realise I don't really care. I won't be there. Their SUV's demand roads, the TV's in every room, the floodlights illuminating their proud houses demand power from the very things that spoil their view. Choices must be made, compromises accepted. 20 clicks from the city does not get one into unspoiled terrain anyways.
I will continue to look for better sites, but for now I will stick it out in the quarry. It's only another 7 weeks. I'll definately trek at least 35 kms every weekend now that I know I am fit for it, feels good to get a liitle windburn if nothing else!
