Ontario has a lot of service roads for power lines that I'm going to try to camp on. Manitoba is harder, but there's a few free campgrounds, and Sask I'm going to try zoom through because of how sparse it is.
Our version of blm land is crown land.
I don't know about your case, but there's a few sites that mark out free campgrounds. Using google maps and google mymaps has helped a lot.
Also, if you're using a car you can camp in most Walmart parking lots over night
