I found pic related a couple minutes ago, looks interesting. I'd also carry a big tarp and some like to rig it up, bigger than my tent, so that doesn't get soaking wet while being set up. The problem with backpacking in the rain, though, if it never lets up, is you are always having to pack at least one or two soggy pieces of gear. It's a hassle I avoid. Mostly in the mountains around here in summer you get the afternoon thunderstorm, which can be quite drenching, then it clears up and dries up. Whip out the umbrella and your outer layer and pack keep mostly dry.
