Also ran into a momma bear and two of her kids once, saw the ass end of the kid running away from me first, didn't realize it was a cub. Got my bear spray out and made sure to make a lot of noise as I continued, 50 metres later I saw the momma and her two cubs running away from me. Ended up just going home because she was running away in the direction I was headed and I didn't want her to think I was stalking her trying to kill her kids or something.
