>>441069I've used them in the past while doing caving. They're useful if you know how and which to use.
First things first: Non-reusable ones are SHIT, period. They are only useful to professional first aid worker such as fireman and ambulance to transport wounded from point A to point B.
In an emergency situation, your blanket will have to last, especially if you're stuck, which will almost always be the case.
They are extremely fragile. Move, sit, deploy them a little sharply or in a strong wind and now you're stuck with christmas decorations. Fucking great.
Buy a reusable one. Not so much because you're planing to use it twice, but for it to hold up in the first place. Once you've lost finger sensitivity, a fragile piece of gear is a useless piece of gear.
Second, you'll need to use them in addition with a heat source. They're not magical, they have no insulation whatsoever. If you're wet you're dead, you have to warm up.
The only reason we carry them is because they're the best material to reflect heat. A radiant heat source is your best option. When i'm out caving, i always bring an emergency candle. You can turn your shelter into a furnace with those.
