You mean free solo.
Free climbing can be done with or without rope. Free climbing means under your own physical capabilities without the use of tools to proper yourself upwards. The opposite is aid climbing.
Free climbing is fun. Free soloing is exhilarating. You don’t have to free solo 1000s of feet of 5.13+ to do it. You can free solo anything within well below your limit and can do it relatively safely with the proper training and preparation (physically and mentally) for it. Sure don’t try to onsight something without a rope but if it’s a route you’ve done countless of times without falling and can do it for laps, foregoing the rope brings a breathe of fresh air to the sport.
I’ve free soloed some routes and my biggest tip is do it on rock that is bullet hard and you know isn’t going to break. That’s the biggest mental block for me.
If the rock is right, the conditions are primo, and you’re mentally there for it, then go for it.
